Loving Our Enemies. By. Marina McCoy. To be a Christian means to love one’s enemy. Jesus’ words and his actions alike testify to this idea. Jesus says, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew ). From the Cross, he forgives the people who are crucifying him: “Forgive them; for they do not know what they. “Enemies in Love expands beyond the beleaguered couple to examine some of the lesser-known aspects of the war, from the discrimination faced by African Americans in the military to the interaction between German prisoners of war and the communities that reluctantly housed them. A powerful tale of love against all odds.

If loving someone means identifying with them and taking up their perspective on the world, does this mean we have to become our enemies (at least intellectually and emotionally)? Must we become nihilists through loving them, or hedonist libertines through loving them, or racists through loving them, because such people are our enemies?   Loving our enemies is simply what Christians do for others because it’s what Christ did for us. So, let’s do it. It’s the right thing to do, and if Brooks is right, it’s also the most socially beneficial thing we can do in our nation’s roiling culture of contempt.

I think “love your enemies” is the most unreasonable thing Jesus says. And that’s saying something, because it’s coming from a guy who also says stuff like “eat my flesh and drink my blood,” “hate your mother and father” and “sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor” (John , Luke and Matthew Works by C.S. Mr Forest explains Jesus' commandment and then goes on to show the ways we can indeed, with God's help, love our enemies. The book is easy to read and the tone is encouraging and optimistic, reflecting God's love and instilling us with hope that we can follow Christ's command and practice reconciliation and peace at every level in our lives/5(10).

Love Your Enemies offers a clear strategy for victory for a new generation of leaders. It is a rallying cry for people hungry for a new era of American progress. Most of all, it is a road map to find the happiness that comes when we choose to love one another, despite our differencesDavid Axelrod, former Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama/5().

Loving Our Enemies by Jim Forest was the summer reading book for Sunday catechism teachers at my parish. We discussed each section of the book over 2 evenings as it is divided into 2 sections: defining what constitutes an enemy and The duty of loving our enemies.

book one can love their enemies. Overall, the book provided a lot of useful information for Christians of any stripe/5(11). Loving Our Enemies O f all the teachings of the Gospel, one of the least heeded is the command to love and pray for our enemies.

Though embedded in the Sermon on the Mount, Our Lord’s words on this subject often go mysteriously missing in exhortations to the faithful. A third argument for the love of our enemies may be drawn from the forgiveness of them. Now, the forgiveness of our enemies is a duty incumbent on us: because, in the first place, malice is, as I showed before, destructive of our happiness: because, secondly, we cannot with any reason ask that of God which we are not willing to bestow: because.

The Benefit of Loving Our Enemies; You may think loving our enemies is a "no-win" situation. Even if we manage to obey Jesus, what good, this side of heaven, will it do to love our enemies. They are still our enemies. Is there a practical reason for us to love our enemies.

I read a book containing the teachings of the Buddhist spiritual leader. Loving our enemies is the real moral and religious litmus test. We don’t have a right to call anyone a “cafeteria Christian” or a compromised follower of Christ unless, first of all, we, ourselves, are persons who are gracious, respectful, loving, and forgiving in the face of anyone who opposes us.

The Autumn issue of Christianity and Society published an article by Reinhold Niebuhr that began: “In times of social and political conflict there are always Christians who obscure the very genius of the New Testament conception of love by their particular interpretation of one form of the love commandment, namely, ‘Love your enemies.’”.

I know loving our enemies is the way to freedom and wholeness and new life. I know it is changing things in Lebanon, one life at a time. Thanks be to God. Jesus calls us to love our enemies (Matthew ). He neither denies we will have enemies, nor implies that loving those who are disposed to destroy us will be easy. But he does envision that our enemy is a vital opportunity to know God.

He says in verse 45 we are to love our enemies " that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.". Love Your Enemies Book Summary: The author examines the theological bases of just war theory and pacifism, espcially in the light of the concept of God, as that motif illuminates Chrsitian discipleship.

Differences between the theory of just war and the practice of pacifism are highlighted in the overview of the history of Christian thought on the subject, and the inclusiveness of the ideal of the kingdom for.

Loving Your Enemies. “Love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful” (Luke –36). Before resuming our study of Genesis we will look at some teachings on guilt and forgiveness found in the New Testament.

Love your Enemies: How to Break the Anger Habit& Be a Whole Lot Happier is written by Sharon Salzberg & Robert Thurman. The book teaches us to recognize the four enemies in life according to Buddhist philosophy: outer enemy -inner enemy -secret enemy -super-secret enemy Dealing with your enemies are taught in several ways/5(34).

How is of the utmost importance. We aren’t able to love our enemies without the help of God. Hating an enemy is what comes natural. We need supernatural help. If we try and love our enemies apart from the help of God it will not be true love.

It’s only by the grace of God, and the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us, that we can love our. Love is the key to the solution of the world’s problem, yes even love for enemies.” Int.

In the 5th Chapter of Matthew's gosple verses 42 and 3 we find these pressing words flowing from the lips of our Lord and Master: “ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy. To love our enemies does not mean that we suddenly become their friends.

If it is our enemies we are to love, they must remain enemies. Unless you have enemies, you cannot love them. And if you have no enemies, I wonder if you have any friends. The moment you choose your friends, their enemies become your own enemies.

In the fourth place, we should be so far from desiring the adversity of our enemies, that we should pity them in their distress. We must pray for our enemies.I am now to offer to your consideration some motives to this duty. Consider the excellency of this duty.

The only way to love our enemies is to forgive them. Once we forgive, we can love anyone. First, remember that loving our enemies requires removing our enmity against God.

God's enmity against us was removed at the cross through Christ's death. At that moment He was reconciled to us. Now it is up to us to be reconciled to Him, to respond to Him in love."You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.' "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
